Overview

Prof. J.V.S. Prakash is one of South India's most distinguished and accomplished Senior Consultant Urologists and Academic Leaders, with over 28 years of specialized clinical and teaching experience in urology. A proud alumnus of the prestigious Madras Medical College, Chennai, where he completed his urology training in 1998, Prof. Prakash served as Professor and Head of Urology at the Institute of Urology, Madras Medical College and Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital, Chennai — one of India's most iconic public healthcare institutions — before superannuating in June 2024. He currently serves as Professor and Head, Department of Urology at Sri Venkateshwara Medical College, Chennai. With over 200 renal transplants performed, including the maximum number of renal transplant surgeries in the government sector during the COVID-19 pandemic, Prof. Prakash is a nationally recognized authority in renal transplantation, endo-urology, uro-oncology, and reconstructive urology. He is the co-author of a landmark paper in the British Journal of Urology on Povidone Iodine sclerotherapy for Chyluria — now accepted as the standard of care worldwide. A former Honorary Secretary and Honorary President of the Madras Urological Society, and the Organising Secretary of USICON 2025, he continues to shape the future of urology through clinical excellence, academic mentorship, and institutional leadership.
