Dr. M. Ram Prabahar

Dr. M. Ram Prabahar is a highly accomplished and internationally decorated nephrologist and renal transplant physician based in Chennai, with over 28 years of expertise in nephrology, kidney transplantation, dialysis, and interventional nephrology. He is the founder and Director of the Institute of Renal Sciences at SRM Institutes for Medical Science, Vadapalani, Chennai, where he has built one of the most comprehensive renal care programs in South India.

Holding an exceptional array of qualifications including DM and DNB in Nephrology, FRCP Glasgow, FASN, FACP, FIMSA, MNAMS, and an MBA in Hospital Management, Dr. Ram Prabahar is among a rare group of nephrologists in India who combine world-class clinical expertise with academic leadership, research, and institutional management capability.

He has performed over 300 kidney transplantations including living donor, cadaveric, ABO-incompatible (ABOI) transplants, sensitized patient transplants, pediatric transplants, and transplantations in patients with abnormal lower urinary tracts. He pioneered online hemodiafiltration services at SIMS, making it the second institution in South India to offer this advanced dialysis therapy.

A prolific researcher with over 25 first-author publications in leading national and international peer-reviewed journals including Kidney International, Renal Failure, Hemodialysis International, and Nephrology Dialysis and Transplantation, Dr. Ram Prabahar is also a dedicated educator who established the DrNB Nephrology training program and allied health science degree programs in renal dialysis technology.
