Dr. Patta Radhakrishna is a renowned Gastro Surgeon, Laparoscopic Surgeon, and Gastroenterologist with decades of distinguished clinical and academic experience. He currently serves as Head of Surgical Gastroenterology and Joint Director at the Institute of Digestive Diseases, SIMS, Chennai.
He graduated from the prestigious JIPMER, Pondicherry (1986), completed his MS in General Surgery from Stanley Medical College (1989), and earned his MCh in Surgical Gastroenterology (1992) from Madras Medical College under the legendary Prof. N. Rangabashyam — one of India's founding fathers of surgical gastroenterology. He subsequently trained at AIIMS, New Delhi, under Prof. Samiran Nundy, where he was actively involved in advanced GI surgeries and participated in the institute's landmark first liver transplant in 1995. He also received advanced laparoscopic training at Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi.
Over the course of his career, Dr. Radhakrishna has held key leadership positions at SVIMS (Tirupati) and NIMS (Hyderabad), and has contributed internationally by establishing and developing GI surgical units in Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. He later joined Apollo Hospitals, Chennai, where he built an outstanding reputation as a GI and laparoscopic surgeon. His career reflects a rare combination of surgical mastery, academic leadership, and institution-building across South Asia.
