Dr. Vishwaraj Ratha is one of Chennai's most accomplished and innovative Consultant Neurosurgeons, with over 15 years of specialized expertise in skull base surgery, neuro-oncosurgery, cerebrovascular surgery, paediatric neurosurgery, microvasculardecompression, and functional neurosurgery. A Gold Medallist in M.Ch Neurosurgery from Bombay Hospital Institute of Medical Sciences and a university rank holder in MS General Surgery, Dr. Ratha trained as Assistant Professor at the nationally acclaimed Sree ChitraThirunal Institute of Medical Sciences, Thiruvananthapuram, where he deepened his expertise in intraoperative neuromonitoring (IONM), endoscopic neurosurgery, and skull base surgery. Since joining SIMS Hospitals, Chennai in December 2015, he has performed over 3,000 complex neurosurgeries and 500+ endoscopic procedures, pioneering multiple India firsts and novel surgical techniques. A true technology innovator, Dr. Ratha performed India's first endoscopic transsphenoidal surgery with VEP monitoring for optic nerve preservation and India's first awake microvascular decompression (MVD) for trigeminal nerve neuralgia using the novel fat-teflon sandwich technique – published in the Journal of Clinical Neuroscience. He holds 17+ international publications, has co-authored multiple chapters in Ramamurthi & Tandon's Textbook of Neurosurgery (4th Edition), and is an active faculty speaker at 40+ national and international neurosurgery conferences. A recipient of the WFNS Fellowship at Singapore General Hospital and a Skull Base Lab Fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh, USA, Dr. Vishwaraj Ratha is widely regarded as one of the best neurosurgeons in Chennai for complex brain tumour surgery, skull base surgery, paediatric neurosurgery, and cerebrovascular surgery.
